Lecture Course

Basics and beyond: building blocks, structure and function of biological membranes

October 31 - November 7, 2019

Lecture Course

From October 31 to November 7, a series of lectures “Basics and beyond: building blocks, structure and function of biological membranes” will be held at the PhysTech.

Lecturer - Professor Norbert Dencher, Director of the Institute of Biochemistry, Department of Chemistry, Darmstadt Technical University in Germany, Head of the Laboratory for Aging and Age-Related Neurodegenerative Diseases, MIPT.

Everyone is welcome!

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Biophysical approach to biological membranes, their structure and building blocks;
  • Biochemistry of lipids and their function as secondary messengers;
  • Properties of biological water and its function;
  • Neutron scattering as a method to analyze structural dynamics of biological membranes in physiological and disease state;
  • Polarized fluorescent spectroscopy as a tool to examine membrane dynamics;
  • Application of Förster fluorescence energy transfer as molecular ruler.
